I’ve spent most of my time shopping for clothes and handbags that I never actually dedicated time to buying jewelry. Fashion jewelry has always been a part of my wardrobe, but it wasn’t until after I was engaged that I started to appreciate fine jewelry for the first time. It also didn’t occur to me that up until then, I hadn’t worn a piece of jewelry that was designed to fit me, and only me.
Most of us don’t think to travel outside of NYC to find those one of a kind pieces, but if you could find them at a cheaper price…is it worth it?
So there I was…off to Princeton, New Jersey (just 1 hour outside of NYC) to visit Hamilton Jewelers sister store, H1912. As soon as I entered the store, I immediately knew it was worth the trip. Each piece was drop dead gorgeous and fit my style to the tea. They carry pre-owned styles that were in perfectly mint condition, but what really stood out to me was that no piece was identical to the other.
I don’t normally wear white gold, but aren’t these pieces unique? And if you’re looking to score some vintage David Yurman or Cartier items, this is the place for you. The Cartier Love Bracelet even came in it’s original box and screwdriver…I mean, c’mon! I can’t forget about the Chopard Happy Diamonds signature ring either. The larger middle diamond actually moves from side to side underneath the sapphire crystal glass and that’s where the “happy” came from, cute right?
Now let’s talk about the gold pieces. If you know me you know I love anything yellow gold, especially rings! This sapphire diamond and ruby ring is pretty versatile, but also perfect for an occasion. Let’s not forget about pinky rings, they’re a must. I also love a good pair of hoop earrings. That’s all I seem to wear these days, and the bezel set diamond gives the pair a more formal look.
But I have to call out that I was pretty disappointed in myself for not being familiar with Pomellato. Their an Italian luxury brand with a mix of fine/fashion jewelry and colorful designs. I checked out their website too…their collections are something else.
If I have to call out my favorite pieces from my visit though, it would be the Chanel. The chain belt recently sold out, so that’s how quickly these one-of-a kind items can go! They only see a handful of Chanel come in too and they rarely make it to markdown. This bracelet is 70% off now though…like really?! I don’t even wear bracelets that much either, but this one will never go out of style.
I love styling different pieces together because each piece is different and unique in it’s own way. Layering necklaces is my favorite way to wear multiple pieces at once and it’s pretty simple to do. Just try to make sure no piece overshadows the other, and if this is something new for you, try styling it with neutrals and a simple top…like I did here.
After trying on this victorian piece (now sold out), and oversized necklace…I realized I might have a thing for chunky jewelry. I think it all started when I wore my Steve Madden chain belt as a necklace. Since then, I’ve seen them everywhere. It kind of brings me back to my college days when I wore thick beaded necklaces and gauchos. I guess it’s true what they say then! Fashion always repeats itself.
Huggies are also really hot right now, and these are at a decent price point ($325). That’s a steal for solid 18K Yellow Gold, and while the earring is chunky and bold, they’re also subtle and classic for everyday. These are the type of staple pieces I want to look for when shopping for fine jewelry…how about you?
